Earth Week 2022, April 19and – 23rd
Since 1970, Earth Day has been held annually on April 22 to help raise awareness and provide opportunities to learn and give back to your environment. This year, join Seattle Parks and Recreation’s Environmental Sustainability, Education and Engagement Unit for fun Earth Week activities. Reading and the outdoors go together like children and playgrounds! The Seattle Public Library and Seattle Parks and Recreation are collaborating to bring you StoryWalk® in the parks from Tuesday April 19 to Sunday April 24.
A walk of stories® is an outdoor reading experience: a picture book is set up on panels along a walking route, where families can read while walking (or skipping or skipping) and enjoy the outdoors.
You can find the StoryWalks from Tuesday April 19 to Sunday April 24 on Herring House Park (Tualtwx), Lincoln Park, Lac Vert (near the community center) and Genesee Park (between the playground and the community center).
Earth Day Celebration at Denny Park
Friday April 22, 10am-5.30pm
Join us for Earth Day at Denny Park on Friday, April 22! We’ll have free lawn games, music and more! Celebrate nature and spend time outdoors in the park this #EarthDay. Lawn games from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and buskers will perform from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
State Park Discover Pass Free Day Friday, April 22
Planning to explore outside the Seattle area on Earth Day? Friday, April 22 is a free Discover Pass day with Washington State Parks! You can visit any park in Washington State without having to pay a fee.
Stroll through Seattle’s largest park – Discovery Park
Saturday April 23, 1-2:30 p.m.
Celebrate Earth Week with Seattle’s Urban Nature Guides. This guided nature walk will focus on exploring the forest with all of our senses. This program will begin and end at the Discovery Park Visitor Center.
All children must be accompanied by an adult. Everyone participating in the program must be registered – call (206) 386-4236 to register for this free walk or West Seattle.
Discovery Park Bird Tour
Saturday April 23, 8-10 a.m.
Experience the joy of birdwatching. Join experienced birders as they explore Discovery Park’s many habitats in search of migrants as well as year-round residents. register here ($5 for ages 8 and up).
Earth Week Family Yoga
Saturday, April 23, 11 a.m. – noon, $7
Join Ms. Maria during Earth Week for a family yoga session at the Discovery Park Visitor Center. We will explore how yoga helps us feel grounded and connected to the Earth, as well as practicing poses, mindfulness and relaxation. This family yoga offer is suitable for children aged 7 and over. register here ($7).
Earth Week DIY Microgreens Kit
Grow your own MICROVERTS at home with our Earth Week DIY Microgreens Kit. Each kit includes everything you need to grow your own at home. Proceeds from these $5 kits support free programming at Discovery Park. The kits will be ready for collection at the Discovery Park Visitor Center during our regular business hours between April 23 and April 30. Reserve your kit here for $5.
Nature City Challenge 2022
From Friday 29 April to Monday 1 May
Join Seattle Parks Naturalists and Seattle Urban Nature Guides on a walk and participate in the Nature City Challenge 2022. The walks are an opportunity to meet new people, get help downloading/using the iNaturalist app (required to participate in the City Nature Challenge) and help document the incredible diversity of nature in our Seattle parks.
