Former Tacoma City Council member and attorney brings over 17 years of experience to Comcast

Comcast today announced Conor McCarthy as the new Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs in Washington. Drawing on his more than 17 years of experience as a lawyer, property manager and member of the Tacoma City Council, McCarthy will develop and implement strategy for government affairs and public policy issues and foster relationships on behalf of the company with elected officials, business leaders and community influencers.

McCarthy will resign from the Tacoma City Council effective June 22, 2022 and join Comcast on June 27, 2022. In his new role at Comcast, McCarthy’s primary responsibilities will include leading the franchise and government affairs regulatory team in the development and implementation of comprehensive strategies regarding franchise policy and hub attachment, policy, awareness campaigns, coalition building, growth, expansion, regulation and public policy issues.

“Conor has made a positive impact in the community as a city council member, volunteer and lawyer, and he will continue to do so as a member of Comcast,” said Terry Davis, Comcast’s senior director of external affairs. “His extensive knowledge of legal, contracting and government affairs will add value to how Comcast serves our customers, the community and runs our business. McCarthy recently served as a member of the Tacoma City Council and as a lawyer in private practice and business attorney. He has provided real estate and construction legal advice for private and public clients, including in-house counsel for developers and attorneys for port districts and municipal government. Prior to that, he spent five years as Property Manager for the City of Tacoma and Tacoma Utilities and was responsible for overseeing all real estate transactions and property management for the City and Utilities.

McCarthy is committed to community involvement in Tacoma and Pierce County. He was co-chair of the Tacoma Pierce County Opioid Task Force and a director on the board of Tacoma Community House, Safe Streets, Workforce Central and South Sound 911. Conor resides in Tacoma with his wife and two boys. Conor and his family spend weekends and free time hiking, scavenging the beach, exploring the outdoors, and attending youth sporting events.
