Caracena had been employed at the Clark County School District since 2018.
Alfredo Caracena, a 63-year-old special education teacher, was arrested last Tuesday for allegedly touching one of his primary school students.
Carcacena submitted his resignation around the same time school officials learned of the alleged incident and told police, who eventually arrested him on two counts of “obscenity. with a child”.
More details have been released since the arrest was announced.
According to local outlet KTNV in Las Vegas, the encounter happened at Walter Bracken STEAM Academy, an elementary school, during the school day. A teacher’s aide was regularly present in Caracena’s classroom, but was not there on the day of the incident. The teacher asked a student to sit on his lap when he started touching her body inappropriately, police say, and asked if he liked it.
The student told another teacher at school what had happened, then the teacher told the principal, who sent Caracena home and called the cops.
An online commentator had this to say about the situation. “The Walter Bracken incident breaks my heart, my sister goes to this school and I was used to it. Mr. Fred/Alfredo Caracena is lucky he didn’t get involved with my sister, not at because of me but because of my dad and my uncles. . My dad is holding two pistols and a shotgun. Very sad.”
The preliminary hearing for the Caracena case is set for June 6.
