Seattle Parks and Recreation opens playground at Lakeridge Playground
Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is pleased to announce that many elements of the Lakeridge Playground renovation project have been completed. The new playground in Southeast Seattle is open. It includes slides, swings, climbing possibilities and play structures. The multisports court (futsal / basketball) and pickleball / badminton courts are also open. Temporary stripes are down on the courts and in spring 2022 additional color surface coating and new permanent stripes will be applied to the courts. Lakeridge Playground, 10145 Rainier Ave S. 98178, is southeast of Seattle.
The fence will remain around the playing field to allow the new grass to establish itself. We plan to open the playground and toilet block in the summer of 2022. SPR will be working with the community and our partners on a community celebration at that time.
Additional funds became available and this project grew to include priorities for the community such as the renovated toilet block, a loop trail, accessible playground liner, and roofs for baseball shelters. The project is a collaboration of private and public funding. The Seattle Park District funded the original core project. The RAVE Foundation, the official charitable arm of Seattle Sounders FC, in partnership with Seattle United and the Seattle Youth Soccer Association, is helping fund the futsal (football) and basketball field, and will provide free programming to youth in the community starting next summer, and the Laurelhurst Pickleball Group through the Seattle Metro Pickleball Association has helped fund the pickleball fields. The project also received a King County Youth Sports Grant.
