You will help create a nurturing, child-centered environment through enrichment and activity while supporting children as they grow and learn. The daycare is more than a safe place, it’s a place where our team strives to create an environment that allows children to reach their full potential. You will be responsible for the development of activities and all class plans, while providing support and guidance to staff or volunteers supervising activities and children.
We are looking to hire a full-time seasonal teacher. Ideally, the candidate would start on June 20 and end at the end of August. It is possible that this role will turn into a permanent position. Scheduled hours are Monday-Friday approximately 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., but there is a slight flexibility in these exact times. This candidate will work at Midway Elementary in Des Moines for the first 4-5 weeks of the program, then at an elementary school in Renton for the last 4-5 weeks. Plans and implements culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate program activities consistent with YMCA youth development goals. Ultimately responsible for the quality and completion of all class plans, including lesson, behavior and event plans.
Program direct to meet the needs of all enrolled children to include their interests, behavioral adaptations and individual learning style.
Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety and to provide a positive experience for each child.
Participate in a coaching and feedback process with the quality groups of the Early Achievers and YMCA programs.
Provides guidance to staff/volunteers supervising activities and observations of groups of children.
Professionally communicates and maintains daily reports, confidential and evaluative information with parents/guardians, including newsletters, one-on-one parent communications, and parent/teacher conferences.
Adheres to YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
May replace the program supervisor during short-term absences.
Maintains a developmentally appropriate classroom, including site appearance, decor, and cleanliness.
Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
18 years or older.
Experience working with children of the same age as those to be supervised.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate practices.
Prefer knowledge and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). The ability to speak any language in addition to English can be helpful.
